ZODIAC KILLER

The self-proclaimed Zodiac Killer is an alias of an American killer who maneuvered in Northern California from late 1960s to early 1970s. With his identity still remains unknown, the killer initiated the name in series of taunting letters and cards consisting of threats, taunts to police and ciphers, were sent to a San Francisco newspaper. The Zodiac claimed of killing 37 victims. Despite intensive investigations no one has been arrested for these murders and mystery case is still open. Zodiac’s letter contained details of the victims that only the killer could have known. The killer demanded letters to be printed on the first page on newspapers with the threats of further attacks in his letter. The letters were closed with a symbol comprising of a circle with a cross through it and it was known as the Zodiac Killer’s symbol. Each letter was also accompanied with one part of a three-part cipher that he claimed hold his identity. While the Bay Area Police Departments worked feverishly with FBI, the killer made further threats to kill kids and mocked police force for their inability to catch him or crack his code. However, the letters were stopped in early 1970s but the investigation didn’t. Many killings were reported and were linked with Zodiac Killer. In nearly five decades no suspect was arrested which seemed to exasperate the law enforcement and Zodiac Killer was still at large, in spite of the mounting evidence and several investigations. In May 2018 the ‘inactive’ case was re-opened and Zodiac Killer’s DNA was collected from the back of his stamps during his correspondence. The Vallejo Police Department intended to catch Zodiac Killer through these DNA results. However, to date no results have been reported.

Several Movies and TV series including documentaries were also made with the inspiration of Zodiac Killer depicting the investigator’s hunt to decrypt the Zodiac Killer’s codes and horrid events happened during the time.
